For reasons that make no sense, I've really wanted a six-speed car. I've had plenty of manuals before, but I really want that sixth gear. So, I want to know all of the cheap cars with 6-Speeds.

Above we have what may be the cheapest: the SVT Focus. I've always quite liked the car, aside from the plastic interior. But, I'm merely doing this little piece to find out from all of you what the cheap six-speeds are.

Go!

Between that and its Camaro brother, you can find one with a big ol V8, T-Tops or convertable, with a LSD in the back for around 5000.

Tercel 4WD wagon has to be the cheapest!

Although, it only qualifies as 6-speed on a technicality.

Cheap by new car standards... Fiesta ST has 6 speeds but 6th gear is pretty much 5th gear...

Didn't these have 6 speeds way back into the early 90s, like 94? Huge range of cheap cars to pick from then

6 speed gearboxes suck. as unlikely as it is to happen, I still have this unrealistic fear that someone - myself included - will accidentally downshift into reverse and blow the motor, or that someone will try to back my car up and put it into 6th stalling the car instead of putting it in reverse. if they were dog legged, that would make more sense. but that still wouldn't solve the underlying problem of most manual transmission drivers expecting reverse to the right instead of to the left..

I'm wondering this also. I see that you can find an SVT Focus like the title image for <$4k with a bunch of miles on it, and that's a pretty darn cheap way to end up with a 6 speed. But a RSX Type-S is an arguably better car, and I think they can be had for more like $6k now, albeit with a bunch of miles.

I paid less than $5k for my old Camaro, and that was 7.5 years ago. They're getting to be somewhat difficult to find at that price now.

But if the cutoff is $10k, it's easy to find an 04 GTO. And that is, IMHO, the best bargain with a 6 speed.

The Fiat Punto sporting has a sixer, not sure about the lower models though. Friend of mine has one.

There's plenty of reasons ... My '08 Mazda 3 has 5 speeds, and a 6th would realllllllllllllly boost that highway mileage (80mph is around 3500rpm, way too high)

Second the SVT Focus. Above picture is the best picture I could fine of mine at a local autoX. Mine is lower mileage, so it was a bit more, but overall I'm happy with it. The only annoyance is it eats through stabilizer bar links, and the ratios are a bit closer than I would prefer. But overall, I like how I can drive to work then drive to an autocross and have a blast!

Well sadly, I already bought my next car, which only have five gears. But they're manual god damnit, so I'm happy.

Exactly.. who's counting? As long as you can select gears yourself by means of a clutch pedal, it gets my approval!
